A great weekend endured and enjoyed by all!!

The snow came down so it was looking like we were never going to make the gig. As the cotton wool lumps fell from the sky then settled on the ground without any fear of melting only to be joined by others to lay a carpet of white that was impossible to drive through. We advanced slowly towards the south battling the elements freezing windscreen wiper jets and slushy road spray from passing Lorries. Stone Henge to the right and to the left a blanket of white that seemed to go on for eternity. Through temperatures of minus eight we drove on till we eventually came upon this small town with wonderful  Gothic architecture that seemed to be frozen in time………………………………………..

Enough of all that….

The Anniversary Circle first time out gig went ok despite having to fight against the elements and other unforeseen sound problems with the backing track and other audible/inaudible experiments that seemed to be going on, on stage. Most of the feedback post gig was positive but not without criticism which I can only say (after watching the videos back) was justified. Although I feel I must say The Queen who was hung in pride of place above the stage left entrance had a smile on her face throughout. I enjoyed the gig enough to give me the bug to go out and do it again soon but lessons have been learned and I know next time to do it all a little different.

 Cauda Pavonis where dark gothic, powerful, and played a brilliant set which included Wardance and Blood Kiss. Go and see them live if you get a chance you won’t be disappointed

Eileen Daly and the Courtesans music is described as fabulous gypsy glam with dark tales in waltz-time. They were exactly that and more. They kept the party dancing and I’m looking forward to seeing them perform again very soon I hope.

Topic: “The Practice of Personal Transformation”

Length: 90 minutes

Both Dion Fortune and Isral Regardie stated that psychotherapy is an essential part of magical and spiritual development, but  what exactly did they mean by this? Why is psychotherapy so important to the development of effective ritual magicians and occultists? What is the most appropriate form of psychotherapy or personal development for developing magical skills? And how does this actually help to enable magicians to perform more effective rituals and magical ceremonies?

Andy Cooper has been a practising ritual magician for nearly twenty years and has trained in many psychological and spiritual healing methodologies. He has applied his wide experience to creating an effective process for rapid personal development that really enhances the effectiveness of occultists and ritual magicians. In this talk, he shares his experience and the processes that have proven to dramatically enhance th performance of ritual magic.

Topic: “A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words: the use of images and figurines in Graeco-Roman malefic magic.”

“The sympathetic magic of the Late Antique period is demonstrated most succinctly in the collection of ancient Graeco-Roman magical handbooks now known as the Graeco-Roman Magical Papyri (or PGM). A surprisingly large number of these sympathetic magical techniques are aimed at harming or controlling another person - a victim - for the magician’s desires, clients, or needs. These curses repeatedly use the same technique of ritually damaging an image of the victim to enact similar or representative damage on the victim him/herself. This image may be as complex as a voodoo doll, or as simple as a bay leaf. In this talk, the literary sources from the Greek and Latin dramatists will be examined in relation to the texts from the PGM, as well as the material evidence such as the 3rd century CE “Louvre Doll” and “Mnesimachos Doll”. We will discuss the nature of malefic magic in the Late Antique period, the influences and inspiration upon such techniques, and its widespread popularity in the ancient world.”

ANNIVERSARY CIRCLE - debut single ANNIVERSARY CIRCLE ANNIVERSARY CIRCLE AC Strange, mysterious and interesting, that’s this band, whose Yorkshire-based origins go back to the 80’s, when they rejoiced in the name of Edo La Tree Le Plastic Elephants, but then they spilt off into Skeleton Crew and Malak Brood. Martin Johnson (guitar/vocals/keys) and Keith Young (bass/guitar/vocals) reformed in 1989 with the ill-advised name of Fruit Eating Bears (which was also once a dire punk band). That came to a very hasty finish, but still the pull exists, and they’ve been back a few years now tinkering away towards a greater purpose, for which they have recently been joined by Ed Morgan (keys/prog) and Estelline Kermagoret (vocals), so things are getting as serious as they are engaging. Both tracks are very cool and actually end up frustrating because they sound like to openings tracks of what would be a great album, and where is the album? It isn’t here. That disgraceful omission aside, ‘Anniversary Circle’ starts ominously, with rasping synth noise over a steady, solemn bass, with gaseous vocals flowing through. The mood is tense, the sounds juicy, like something ambient on fire, with vocals caught in the embers. It’s a powerful sound, with a steady vocal guiding presence, which gradually subsides and slips away, much like a suicidal vicar. ‘Take’ ups the Gothy ante, the female vocals creeping around the smouldering bass, with some rapacious guitar thrusting across, and gradually the vocals assert their genteel qualities, leaving the track to again ebb away carrying less threat and more charm. Track 1 Anniversary Circle

One of our oldest songs which has emerged into the light of day after many years of being in the dark.
You’re born, you live and you die in your beds. On each occasion there is cause for celebration or mourning. Always acted upon without question… When we die do we ask? Do we go to heaven, do we go to hell, or are we part of the atheist, agnostic, organic, Darwinist plan and go to earth? Turn to dust. Do we have a choice?
Or are we in a perpetual cycle for all eternity? Anniversary Circle. An Existing living hell.

Track 2 Take

Take is a song which delves into untouchable subject matter seeking danger from strangers. To some it may give the impression that whoever they are, are asking for whatever they get. I assure you that is not the case in this lyrical path dedicated to the unforgivable and the strange.

On vocals we are joined by the very talented Estelliane Kermagoret who gives the song its intimate flavour and texture with her angelic tones.

Band Bio

Anniversary Circle who originally hail from a then small mining community in South Yorkshire were producing original material before their time. Playing their wears to anyone who would listen in living rooms, kitchens, bedrooms but mainly in Keith’s Mam and Dad’s front room to a few kids who had trespassed onto the front lawn and to those who would bang on the wall in appreciation. Keith an ooh 20 I am and Martin a teenage tear away together penned their own tunes and went by the name of Edo La Tree Le Plastic Elephants did so under the toxic rain of Margaret Thatcher. During the 1980s post punk era they were defiantly the winters children and aroused the cliché ‘its grim up North’ whilst they thought of themselves as eerie, disquieting and strange being influenced by Siouxsie & The Banshees, The Gang of Four, Bauhaus and John Lennon. Whilst managing to make a difference in their small shunted mining town (as no one else seemed to be bothering.) It did not last as they defected in to the Skeleton Crew and the Malak Brood. As Le Plastic Elephants became a forgotten invention girlfriends came and went as did the bands and line-ups. Martin and Keith reunited in 1989 with the help of Adrian Fusiarski (now of the 99th Floor Elevators.) to Form the Fruit Eating Bears and wrote new material keeping the old stuff in a very dark place under lock and key only for Keith to leave in 1990. After many years and many choruses of who ate all the pies. Martin who chases the aces in Surrey and Keith who keeps the spit turning in Yorkshire are reunited once again as Anniversary Circle.

 That is until!!

Ed Morgan Joined Martin and Keith at the birth of Anniversary Circle
introducing his percussive bites and stabs. With his demon presence he is a collective part of the band and is always there when they need him. They just whisper his name.

Estelliane Kermagoret is the most recent edition to the band and also a collective member originally fro Brittany. She birngs her ethereal tones to the sound with a breath of new life amongst the lost souls. Rest assured there will be more from Estelliane.
